Lommi Vuma, age 43, born in KZN, is the elder son of the late legendary music producer Tom Vuma (who founded and produced acts like Steve Kekane, Chicco Twala, Brenda Fassi to name only a few), and he started his visual artist career during the 2020 COVID pandemic. Inspired by his 6 yeardaughter, Lowie who always grew as a way to have fun and keep busy during lockdown, Lommiremembered his drawing talent, picked up a paper and pencil and never looked back.

The first picture he made generated R750 which he used to purchase more art supplies. Lommi then went on to making more atworks using different mediums, one of which was a stone work of South African President, Mr. Cyril Ramaphosa, made out stones he colleted on Lions Head Cape Town and sand from Camps Bay Beach.

The picture was framed by the framing art gallery in Sea Point Cape Town where artworks by world renowned artists like Pablo Picasso works are framed for clients who own the famous works of Picasso.

At the framing gallery Lommi’s artistic talent was noticed by Stuart Valentine Rambridge, an established artist from the UK who decided to mentor Lommi and give him free painting lessons. Lommi began painting with acrylics, oils, pastels, charcoal and other mixed mediums. During COVID, his fathr passed away which caused Lommi to relocate to JHB.

Lommi painted an abstract paitning of his father and donated it to music rights organisation SAMRO. It was in Melville JHB where he also met world famous artist Martin WinKindu who also taught Lommi various art techniques which has now formed part of his overall artistic style.

Lommi has travelled all over the country, Soweto, Limpopo, KZN, Mthatha Eastern Cape, Cape Town and Pretoria selling his artworks for less than R500 and doing Portraits for R200 just to get his artworks and name on the wall of community members homes.

He soon caught the attention of Greg Lipton, a curator and owner of Art Haus Sea Point, the jewel of cape Town where his works are now displayed. One of his works entitled, “This is not a Picasso” sold to an American lady who fell in love with the picture which is now in America.

Lommi has done portraits for the Berman Brothers and Wayne Burger, as well as Steven, a UK tourist which are now in London.
