Stephen Bourdet

Born in Paris in 1977 and since lived in many countries, finally my heart and home are in Cape Town.

My creativity started at a very early age but by 18 I found my love of painting. Through this medium, I have been able to express the person I am today, although it has been a long journey getting here.

At my first exhibition, not far from Lausanne in Switzerland, I was told that I could achieve nothing and I had no talents, regardless of the fact that every piece of artwork was sold. I wonder whether we are who we are because of the experiences we have encountered? Do we carry the hurt and disappointment received from others, when we seek only support and to be recognised? These raw emotions have almost broken me, not wanting to express who I am in fear of being judged.

So, I ran from art and avoided the galleries and the judgment, but I have decided to run no more. Permanently established in SA, I open the doors to my art studio showroom in Fresnaye, where I am free to embrace my vulnerability, love, pride, and adventure. You are welcome to visit my world.”
