Debbie Field is a South African, and a graduate, majoring in Art, of Wits University, Gauteng.  She has studied oil painting with Greg Kerr, Ryno Swart and Gill Trappler. Together with Ryno Swart, Gavin Calf and other artists, Debbie was a founder member of “The Artists Co-Operative”, now based in Simonstown. 

 

Her ceramics work and paintings have been shown in several group exhibitions in Cape Town and Johannesburg, with work in private collections both locally and abroad. 

In 2014, she started a collaboration with UK Artist Emily Ball, and brought Emily to Cape Town to offer workshops in Cape Town. She has since attended a further Summer School course with Emily at her studio in the UK in 2015. 

 

In April 2016, 2017 and 2018, Debbie once again hosted and organised for Emily to be a guest teacher in Cape Town and Cintsa. 

In 2015, she began to teach art to the students of Indonesia Arts Academy in Gugulethu.  In March 2018, she attended a workshop in the UK by Simon Carter, a UK landscape artist. 

 

In 2018 and 2019, she taught painting workshops for UCT Summer School.  Her current work, in oils and wax encaustic is to be seen at Infin Art, Cape Town, The Gallery and RK Contemporary in Riebeek Kasteel. She is a contributor to the Yellowwoods foundation in Cape Town.

She is currently teaching and working from her own studio in Cape Town, and by invitation at various venues throughout the country. In action to COVID-19 constraints, she has begun teaching painting classes online.
